In addition to some other topics, Carwai has posted a summary of the TCS Census to her NMY Math/Science blog:
As the nation participated in the 2010 Census, the students in the NMY at TCS embarked on their own census. The classes explored the purpose of the census, examined what type of questions are asked and how the information is collected. We looked at what we wanted to find out about our own community at TCS. In math/science class, the students compiled the questions they wanted to research and they created census forms to distribute. It was determined that different formats were required to collect information from the different members of the community. Census forms were sent to through the First Grade mail system, forms were sent home to parents and students were interviewed one-on-one. The data was collected over several weeks. In Humanities, the classes looked at infographics and how they communicate information. Each student took their data and created their own infographics to share their findings. If you are interested in learning more about their work, please come and view their work in the Studio.
